Prime Minister Gaston Browne has been nominated unopposed to continue as Political Leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), as the party finalises its leadership slate ahead of a national convention scheduled for April 12.

The announcement signals a strong show of internal unity within the ruling party as it ramps up preparations for the next general elections, widely expected in the coming months.

According to party officials, the executive team will remain largely unchanged, with Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene retaining his position as Chairman. Samantha Marshall and Clement Antonio have also been returned as First and Second Vice Chairpersons, respectively.

A notable addition to the executive is Donna Chaia, who has been nominated to serve as Third Vice Chairman for the first time, marking a new inclusion in the party’s leadership structure.

Meanwhile, Abena St. Luce has been selected as Treasurer, continuing a distinguished family legacy established by her father, Sir John St. Luce.

In a significant transition, long-serving General Secretary Senator Mary-Clare Hurst will step aside from her role, with Senator Shenella Govia nominated as her successor. Hurst is expected to assume the honorary title of General Secretary Emeritus, recognising her years of service to the organisation.

The ABLP says the combination of experienced leadership and emerging talent reflects a strategic balance as the party positions itself for the upcoming electoral contest.

The April 12 convention will formally ratify both the leadership team and the slate of candidates expected to contest the next general elections.

  2. Is this cause the ABLP is afraid of Gaston? Hmm

  3. Everyone knows a true leader by heart. This has nothing to do with being afraid of anyone. The party is not shifted and corrupted like those of the opposing side. Examine the difference before you come commenting bs. You’re sounding like that loser for St. Peters (GW)
