Tyra Fenton posted the fastest qualifying time in the Under-17 girls’ 200 metres preliminary round on Sunday morning at the CARIFTA Games, clocking 23.79 seconds to win Section 2 and advance to the afternoon final as the top seed.

Fenton’s time placed her ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Eden Chee-Wah, who ran 23.93 seconds in Section 3, and Bahamas’ Keyezra Thomas, who posted 23.96 seconds in Section 1.

Jamaica’s Shayon Smith qualified fourth overall in 24.14 seconds, with Bahamas’ Brion Ward fifth in 24.24 seconds and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jael Peters sixth in 24.31 seconds.

Jamaica’s Danelia Clarke and British Virgin Islands’ M’kenzii Crabbe advanced as the two non-automatic qualifiers, clocking 24.31 and 24.34 seconds respectively.
