Voter ID cards are being renewed at a vigorous pace in this election season
The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has recorded a weekly total of 1,606 voter ID replacement applications for the period April 19–25, 2026, as the country moves closer to General Elections on April 30.
The latest figures, outlined in ABEC’s official weekly report, show a sustained push by electors to comply with the mandatory voter identification requirement, with daily replacement numbers peaking earlier in the week before tapering off by April 25.
According to the report, daily replacement application counts ranged from 89 at the start of the week to a high of 393, before declining to 73 by Saturday.
In addition to replacements, ABEC recorded 178 new voter registration applications over the same period, reflecting continued engagement from first-time voters.
Strong Activity Across Key Constituencies
Several constituencies reported significant activity during the week. St. George led with 165 applications, followed closely by St. John’s Rural West (168) and All Saints West (150).
Other high-performing areas included:
• St. Mary’s North – 153
• St. John’s Rural North – 130
• St. John’s Rural East – 124
At the lower end, St. Philip North (14) and Barbuda (19) recorded the fewest applications for the week.
Monthly Total Surpasses 31,000
Cumulative data up to April 25 shows a monthly total of 31,909 voter ID replacement applications, underscoring the scale of the nationwide exercise.
Among constituencies, St. Peter stands out with 92% completion, the highest in the country, while most other constituencies fall within the 60% to 70% completion range.
Final Push Ahead of Election Day
The figures reflect a final surge in voter ID replacements as ABEC continues to stress that no elector will be permitted to vote without a valid voter identification card.
With just days remaining before the polls, election officials are urging those who have not yet replaced their cards to act immediately, as the window to participate in the democratic process rapidly narrows.
