In a development that is already stirring political discussion, Joanne Massiah, leader of the Democratic National Alliance, has publicly rallied support behind Lamin Newton, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for All Saints East and St Luke.

Massiah, who has been a longstanding critic of the ABLP and its policies, was seen at Newton’s meet-and-greet event on Monday night encouraging constituents to back the Labour Party candidate in the upcoming general elections.

Her appearance and message mark a notable shift in tone, given her party’s history of opposition to both major political parties. The DNA, founded by Massiah in 2017 after her departure from the UPP, has positioned itself as an alternative voice in Antiguan politics.

Eyewitnesses at the event reported that Massiah openly endorsed Newton, urging voters to support his candidacy in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested race in the constituency.

The unexpected show of support has sparked speculation about shifting political alliances and strategies in the final days of campaigning, particularly as the DNA has already indicated it will not contest the election.

While Massiah has not publicly outlined the full reasoning behind her endorsement, political observers say the move could influence undecided voters and reshape dynamics in the All Saints East and St Luke constituency.

With election day fast approaching, the spotlight is now firmly on whether this endorsement will translate into tangible support at the polls.

  5. We can’t say is a switch. DNA is not competing in the general election so she’s just saying who can be the best person for the constituency
