Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed strong confidence in Lamin Newton, declaring that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate “has what it takes” to one day become the country’s next prime minister.
Browne made the remarks while addressing residents during a meet-and-greet in the All-Saints East and St Luke constituency on Monday night, throwing his full support behind Newton’s candidacy ahead of the April 30 general elections.
Newton is contesting the seat against Jamale Pringle of the United Progressive Party (UPP), in what is widely regarded as a traditional stronghold for the opposition.
Despite the constituency’s political history, Browne told supporters that Newton represents a new generation of leadership within the ABLP, pointing to his potential, capability, and readiness for higher office.
The prime minister’s endorsement underscores the party’s push to flip key opposition-held seats as campaigning intensifies in the final days before voters head to the polls.
Meanwhile, Newton told residents that it is time for a change since their representative has done nothing for the community.
