Several young professionals, including communications specialist Angelica O’Donoghue, are expected to be sworn in as senators this morning as the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party administration continues assembling its fourth-term government following last week’s general election victory.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. and forms part of the ongoing process to finalize the composition of the new administration after the ABLP secured a commanding 15 of the 17 parliamentary seats in the April 30 polls.
Among the names expected to take the oath are Shaquan O’Niel, Abena St Luce, and O’Donoghue, all seen as part of a younger generation of talent being brought into the country’s political leadership structure.
The appointments reflect what appears to be a deliberate push by Prime Minister Gaston Browne to introduce younger voices and strengthen female representation within the Senate and wider government system.
Speaking recently on the pending appointments, Browne revealed that he had pledged to appoint at least one individual in his early twenties to the Upper House.
“I had promised to appoint at least one person in the early 20s,” Browne said, describing the appointee as a young man who played a visible and competent role during the recent election campaign.
The Prime Minister said the young appointee is a graduate of The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus and was actively involved in supporting the party throughout the election season.
Browne also made it clear that the administration intends to increase female participation at the parliamentary level.
“We are seeking to appoint some females. We’re looking for more female talents,” he stated.
He further disclosed that one senatorial position remains vacant for now, as the administration continues discussions on appointing another young female candidate.
Today’s ceremony will mark another significant stage in the formation of the ABLP’s new government, as Browne begins his fourth consecutive term in office following the party’s landslide re-election victory.

I love this.
So happy for this young man
The PM likes to recruit members from the UPP team. Since he has another vacant seat in the Senate, he can seek out someone from the UPP—they always have young, brilliant minds among them.
“Hope these new senators really represent the people well
Experience important, but young minds could still bring innovation.
Evsrytime I see a young person elevated i am so excited. Congratulations to all of you
