Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle and four Opposition Senators were officially sworn in on Monday during a ceremony held at the recently restored Government House in St. John’s.
Governor General Sir Rodney Williams administered the instruments of appointment during the ceremony, formally appointing Pringle as Leader of the Opposition following the United Progressive Party’s performance in the April 30 General Elections.
Pringle, the elected representative for All Saints East and St. Luke, now assumes the constitutional role of Opposition Leader in Parliament as the UPP begins rebuilding efforts following the elections.
Also sworn in as Opposition Senators were Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union executive Chester Hughes, UPP Public Relations Officer Jonathan Wehner and SJRE caretaker Ashworth Azille. Malaka Parker, will be sworn in at a later date as she was absent.
Under Antigua and Barbuda’s Constitution, the Opposition is entitled to four seats in the Senate.
