29-Year-Old Okeen Lightfoot of Sweetes

Residents of Swetes Village are preparing to pay tribute to 29-year-old Okeen Dean Lightfoot during a candlelight vigil scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, following his tragic death in a traffic collision earlier this week.

The vigil will take place at 7 p.m. opposite the bakery in Swetes Village, where family members, friends, co-workers, and supporters are expected to gather in remembrance of the young sanitation worker. Organisers are encouraging attendees to wear royal blue attire in his honour.

Lightfoot, an employee of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), lost his life on Tuesday morning while carrying out grass-cutting duties along All Saints Road.

He was working on the northern side of the roadway when a motor bus travelling east allegedly lost control while speeding. Investigators say the bus veered off the road and struck Lightfoot, pinning him between the vehicle and a parked truck.

The fatal crash has left many in the community in mourning, with residents and co-workers expressing shock and sadness over Lightfoot’s sudden death.

  1. This one really hurt. A young man simply doing his job and never made it back home. Prayers for Okeen’s family and co-workers because this pain is heavy. People need to slow down on these roads before more innocent lives are lost.
