National Cyclist Tahje Browne
A Vincentian man accused of striking national cyclist Tahje Browne with a rental vehicle and attempting to leave the country shortly afterwards has pleaded guilty to all charges arising from the incident.
According to Wadadli Case Files, Kishroy Harry appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning, where he admitted to dangerous driving, driving without the owner’s consent, driving without a valid driver’s licence, and driving without insurance.
The charges stem from a June 20 collision along Sir Sydney Walling Highway near the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board, where Browne was struck while riding his bicycle.
The incident attracted widespread public attention after video footage of the crash circulated on social media. Browne, one of Antigua and Barbuda’s top cyclists, was rushed to hospital following the collision and later underwent surgery. He is reported to be recovering.
Police investigations revealed that Harry allegedly disposed of the clothing he was wearing at the time of the crash before attempting to board a flight to St. Vincent the following day.
He was intercepted at V.C. Bird International Airport on June 21 and subsequently arrested and charged.
With guilty pleas entered on all four counts, the matter now moves to sentencing. Harry is expected to return to court on July 1, when a magistrate will decide his punishment.
The case has drawn significant public interest, particularly within the local sporting community, where many have continued to rally around Browne during his recovery.
