A burst of gunfire shattered the calm on South Street Saturday night, leaving two teenage boys hospitalized after they were ambushed by masked gunmen in the latest act of gun violence to rock the community.

Police say the shooting occurred shortly after 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, near a tattoo shop on South Street.

According to preliminary investigations, the two teenagers were standing along the roadway when they spotted two unknown men walking along Goodwin Street.

The suspects, both dressed in dark clothing with hooded tops concealing their faces, allegedly approached before one of them opened fire, discharging several rounds in the teenagers’ direction.

The gunmen fled the area on foot immediately after the shooting, disappearing before police arrived.

A 16-year-old from South Street and a 17-year-old from Villa sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where doctors have confirmed their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Both remain hospitalized under observation while receiving further medical treatment.

Investigators are working to determine what led to the attack and whether the victims were specifically targeted. No arrests have been made, and police continue to pursue several leads.

The Police Administration is urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could assist investigators to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

Authorities have assured the public that all information received will be treated with the strictest confidence as the investigation continues.
