National Cyclist Tahjé Browne Graduates as Recovery Continues After Highway Crash

National cyclist Tahjé Browne is being celebrated not only for his achievements on the road but now for an important academic milestone, earning praise from Education Minister Daryll Matthew following his graduation from ABCAS.

The minister took to social media to congratulate Browne, describing his graduation as a powerful example of perseverance after the cyclist narrowly escaped tragedy just weeks ago.

“Congratulations to National Cyclist Tahjé Browne on your graduation from ABCAS!” Matthew wrote. “Despite the near tragedy you experienced, God’s grace has brought you safely to this milestone. Your perseverance, resilience, and determination have carried you across yet another finish line.”

He added that he hopes the achievement marks the beginning of even greater success in Browne’s life, wishing him continued good health, God’s blessings, and success both in cycling and beyond.

The congratulatory message comes less than two weeks after Browne was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision on Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

On the morning of June 20, the national cyclist was riding westbound when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crossed into his lane and struck him. Security camera footage of the incident circulated widely, prompting public outrage and renewed calls for greater accountability on the nation’s roads.

Investigators later identified the driver as 24-year-old Vincentian Kishroy Harry. Witnesses said Harry briefly stopped after the collision and checked on Browne before leaving the scene. He was arrested the following day while attempting to board a flight to St. Vincent.

Browne’s recovery has been closely followed by the public, with many expressing relief that his injuries were not life-threatening and applauding his determination throughout his rehabilitation.

His graduation has now become another inspiring chapter in that journey, symbolizing resilience in the face of adversity.

Antigua.News joins in congratulating Tahjé Browne on his graduation and wishes him continued success in both his academic pursuits and cycling career.
