The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has launched an active investigation into disturbing claims circulating on social media that human remains were discovered underwater approximately three nautical miles east of Parham Dock.
The allegations originated in a Facebook post shared by the page True Crimes Antigua, which claimed the information came from a follower. According to the post, divers reportedly encountered several human remains beneath the sea, with some allegedly found chained or with their feet shackled to cement buckets and large concrete columns.
The post further alleged that the discovery was made while diving with Canadian researchers studying the reefs and that the matter had already been reported to authorities, but no apparent action had been taken.
The claims quickly spread online, generating widespread concern and speculation, particularly among families of missing persons.
In response, police issued a statement on Monday confirming that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
According to the Police Administration, officers and members of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard conducted investigations in the reported area on Saturday, July 18. However, they were unable to identify the precise location where the alleged remains were said to have been discovered.
Authorities said investigators and the Coast Guard are continuing to work together to verify the information and accurately determine the reported location before a comprehensive underwater search can be carried out.
Police explained that an operation of this nature requires precise and reliable information to ensure search efforts are properly coordinated and that available resources are used effectively.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Police Administration is appealing to anyone with information that could help pinpoint the exact location of the alleged discovery to come forward.
The statement also acknowledged the emotional impact of the allegations, noting that they come at a time when several families are still searching for answers regarding loved ones who have been reported missing over the years.
Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers reaffirmed his commitment, and that of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, to pursue every credible lead and every piece of information that may assist investigators in bringing closure to outstanding missing persons cases.
Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues and said updates will be provided once verified information becomes available.
