The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has announced a series of enhanced security measures for the 2026 Carnival season, promising an increased law enforcement presence aimed at ensuring a safe and enjoyable festival for residents and visitors.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police said officers will be deployed across Carnival City and other major event venues throughout the festivities, with security operations significantly strengthened to deter crime and maintain public order.

One of the key measures will see the Police K-9 Unit stationed at the entrances and exits of every event held at Carnival City. The specially trained dogs will assist officers in screening patrons and detecting prohibited or illegal items before they enter event venues.

Police are urging members of the public to cooperate fully with officers and K-9 handlers during the security checks.

Beyond the event venues, motorists can also expect increased Vehicle Check Points (VCPs), random stop-and-search operations, as well as expanded mobile and foot patrols across the island. Police say the operations are intended to prevent criminal activity, remove illegal weapons from the streets and provide a secure environment throughout the Carnival celebrations.

The Police Administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on illegal firearms and offensive weapons during the festival. Anyone found carrying firearms, ammunition, knives, machetes, cleavers, scissors or any other offensive weapon at Carnival events will face arrest and prosecution.
