Kenyah Potter & Gladys Potter

Former United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate Gladys Potter has expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support her family has received following the tragic death of her 21-year-old son, Kenyah S. Potter.

Kenyah died after reportedly drowning while swimming at Buffalo Harbor State Park in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday.

In a message shared on social media, Potter thanked family members, friends and members of the wider community for standing with the family as they cope with the devastating loss.

“We want to express our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, phone calls, and messages we have received since the tragic passing of our beloved Kenyah,” Potter said.

She said the many words of encouragement, shared memories and condolences have brought some comfort to the family during an unimaginably difficult period.

Potter also explained that the family has not been able to personally respond to everyone who has reached out, as they continue to struggle emotionally with Kenyah’s sudden passing.

“If we have not replied or answered you directly, please know it is only because our emotional state makes it hard to find the words right now,” she said. “We see your messages, we feel your support, and we are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you.”

Reflecting on her son’s life, Potter remembered Kenyah for the energy, happiness and love he brought to those around him.

“Kenyah brought so much bright energy, joy, and love into this world, and it means everything to us to see how many hearts he touched  in Antigua, USA, St. Lucia,” she said.

The Potter family thanked everyone who has honoured Kenyah’s memory and asked that they continue to be kept in prayer as they mourn.

“Thank you for honoring his beautiful spirit and for standing with our family. Please continue to keep us in your prayers,” the family said.

Kenyah, an Antiguan who was living and studying in West Seneca, was reportedly swimming in the outer harbor at Buffalo Harbor State Park when he disappeared beneath the water. His body was later recovered following a multi-agency search.

Antigua.news continues to extend its sincere condolences to Gladys Potter, the Potter family, Kenyah’s relatives and friends during this time of profound grief.

May Kenyah S. Potter rest in eternal peace.
