Sekani Isaac, 20, of Clare Hall, has been charged after police allegedly found a modified pipe gun and one round of 9mm ammunition.

A 20-year-old Clare Hall man who reportedly shot himself accidentally with a modified firearm has pleaded guilty to unlawfully manufacturing and possessing the weapon and ammunition.

Sekani Isaac entered the guilty pleas when he appeared before the St John’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. He was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison pending sentencing on August 26.

Isaac appeared in court with a visibly blood-stained bandage wrapped around his left hand. He reportedly told the court that the wound was still bleeding, prompting an order that he receive medical attention.

The investigation began on August 8 after police received information from medical personnel at the Emergency Room of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

An officer subsequently obtained a warrant to search Isaac’s Clare Hall residence. During the search, police reportedly discovered a modified pipe gun beneath the western section of the house, with a spent round lodged in its barrel.

Two iron firearm frames, including one fitted with a receiver, were also allegedly found inside the residence.

Isaac was not represented by an attorney during Wednesday’s court appearance. His father briefly addressed the court on his behalf before the young man was remanded.
