Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Daryll Matthew, is participating in the 52nd Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development on Education in Georgetown, Guyana.

The two-day meeting, chaired by Guyana’s Minister of Education Sonia Parag, is being held under the theme, “Educating for Life, Purpose and Caribbean Progress.”

Education ministers and other regional stakeholders are examining several major issues affecting education across the Caribbean. Discussions are focused on micro-credentials, regional assessments, improving mathematics education and strengthening support for teachers and the teaching profession.

Matthew said the regional talks are especially important as Antigua and Barbuda continues its efforts to modernise its education system and better prepare students for an evolving global environment.

“Education must continue to evolve to prepare our young people not simply to pass examinations, but to succeed in a rapidly changing world,” Matthew said.

“Regional collaboration allows us to share solutions, embrace innovation, and ensure our education systems remain relevant and responsive.”

The minister reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to working closely with its CARICOM partners to strengthen regional education and expand opportunities for Caribbean students and educators.

Matthew is accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ena Dalso.
