Omari Phillip Dies Weeks After Being Shot on All Saints Road

Omari Phillip has died, several weeks after he was shot while working on All Saints Road.

Phillip died at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre on Friday morning, August 14, after spending weeks in hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the shooting.

He had survived the initial attack, but remained hospitalized as doctors continued to treat him. His condition ultimately deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Phillip had been out of prison for less than two years when he was shot.

His name became widely known more than a decade ago in connection with the 2012 armed robbery at Dee’s Service Station, which claimed the life of pump attendant Dorothy Prince.

Prince was shot three times during the robbery and died from her injuries the following day.

Phillip was among the men charged in connection with the crime. He was initially convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison, but successfully appealed the conviction, which was later reduced to manslaughter. His sentence was subsequently revised.

After serving more than 12 years behind bars, Phillip was released from His Majesty’s Prison on November 15, 2024.

While incarcerated, he participated in a number of educational programmes, including courses offered through the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus and the Lifelong Learning Unit.

Prison officials said around the time of his release that Phillip had been making efforts to prepare himself for life outside prison and his eventual reintegration into society.

Following his release, Phillip returned to the community and was working when he was shot on All Saints Road several weeks ago.

He was rushed to hospital following the shooting and remained under medical care until his death Friday morning.

Phillip’s death brings a fatal end to the All Saints Road shooting and comes less than two years after he regained his freedom following more than a decade in prison.
