The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has launched a major nationwide crime-fighting initiative dubbed “Operation Restore Confidence,” targeting illegal firearms, ammunition, drugs, stolen property and people linked to ongoing criminal investigations.

The coordinated exercise includes intelligence-led searches in communities and known crime hotspots, along with mobile patrols, vehicle checkpoints and stop-and-search operations.

During one of the major operations conducted early Sunday morning, police reportedly seized an Astra CUB .25-calibre pistol and several rounds of matching ammunition.

Three people found at the premises were arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and taken into police custody.

Officers also seized suspected stolen licence plates and other items of interest. Several people were detained for questioning in connection with ongoing investigations.

The operation brings together personnel from several departments and specialist units, including the Criminal Investigations Department Task Force, K-9 Unit, Narcotics Department, Special Services Unit, A and B Divisions, Proceeds of Crime Unit, Forensic Evidence Recovery Unit and Traffic Department.

Police said Operation Restore Confidence is not a one-off exercise and warned that similar targeted operations will continue across Antigua and Barbuda.

The initiative is intended to disrupt criminal networks, remove illegal weapons from the streets, apprehend people involved in criminal activity and strengthen safety and security within communities.

The Police Administration is appealing to the public to provide information concerning illegal firearms and ammunition, stolen property or other criminal activity.
