Employees of the Medical Benefits Scheme’s Human Resources Department were allowed to leave work early Wednesday after an object believed to be a stone was thrown at a window of the department’s office on Nevis Street.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at the HR Department, which is located above the MBS Pharmacy.
The projectile struck one of the windows, leaving employees shaken by the incident. Staff members were subsequently allowed to leave work for the remainder of the afternoon.
The incident comes amid a series of apparent acts of vandalism targeting public-sector offices in St John’s.
Police are already investigating damage to three government-related offices along Independence Drive, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority, the Treasury Department and the Antigua and Barbuda Social Security Board.
The glass doors of those buildings were damaged sometime between Tuesday night and the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday.
Preliminary information indicated that nothing appeared to have been stolen from the three offices.
It is not immediately clear whether the incident at the Medical Benefits Scheme is connected to the earlier acts of vandalism.
Police investigations into the incidents are continuing.
