Zero Per Cent ABST Weekend Announced for School Supplies and Food
Parents and guardians will benefit from a two-day reduction in Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax as families prepare for the reopening of schools.
Cabinet has confirmed that ABST will be reduced to zero per cent on qualifying school supplies and food items on Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Qualifying items will include pencils, pens, notebooks, school uniforms, school bags, shoes, calculators, geometry sets, art supplies, information technology supplies and home economics supplies.
The Inland Revenue Department is expected to provide further guidance to businesses and consumers on qualifying products and the administrative arrangements for the initiative.
Cabinet said the measure is intended to provide families with direct financial relief during a period of increased household expenditure.
A similar initiative was implemented on April 10 and 11, ahead of the reopening of schools following the Easter break.
The Government said the temporary tax reduction forms part of its wider support for students and families, which also includes the School Uniform Grant Programme and the School Meals Programme.
Cabinet acknowledged that preparing for a new academic year can place significant financial pressure on households, particularly families with several school-aged children.
Parents and guardians are being encouraged to take advantage of the two-day tax-relief period.

Only now? No right thinking parent waits until the last weekend in August to prepare their children for school. If the government were sincere they would have offered this June and July month ends if not the whole of July
You are absolutely right. I did my shopping last Saturday. Choupz!
This should happen as soon as the result for common entrance came out not now
So they can do it in two phase Give the school shopping early and then the food shopping this late,
