Major construction, expansion, renovation and maintenance projects are being undertaken at schools across Antigua and Barbuda ahead of the 2026–2027 academic year.
The Board of Education told Cabinet that it has been using the summer break to advance several projects simultaneously.
In addition to its continuing involvement in the construction of the new Five Islands Primary School, the Board is overseeing expansion works at Clare Hall Secondary School, Antigua Grammar School and Pigotts Primary School.
Plans are also being developed to expand Sir Novelle Richards Academy. The Ministry of Education will finalise the details and requirements for that project.
Cabinet was informed that additional funding will be allocated during the upcoming academic year for major school expansion and renovation projects.
The customary summer maintenance programme is also underway at schools throughout the country.
Works include plumbing and electrical repairs, replacement of windows, installation of new furniture and other improvements needed before students and teachers return.
The Board is working with school administrators and the Ministry of Education to identify priority areas and address the most urgent problems.
It is also supporting institutions affiliated with the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies as the Government expands tertiary, technical and vocational education.
Cabinet commended the management and staff of the Board of Education for managing major expansion projects while simultaneously carrying out repairs and maintenance throughout the school system.
