Police Operations Lead to Multiple Arrests and Seizures Across Antigua

Guns Seized and Two Held After Late-Night Police Operation

Police have made several arrests and seized ammunition, suspected drugs and other items during a series of operations carried out across Antigua and Barbuda this week.

The latest activity took place on Thursday, August 20, when officers executed several search warrants in Potters Village as part of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda’s ongoing crime-fighting efforts.

During a search at Magic City Enterprise, police reportedly found several rounds of ammunition, plant material suspected to be cannabis and pills suspected to be ecstasy.

Officers also seized a ski mask and a quantity of Eastern Caribbean currency from the premises.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of unlawfully possessing ammunition and controlled substances. Police have not released their names, and investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, three men have been charged following the discovery of a firearm and ammunition during a stop-and-search operation on Nut Grove Main Road on Wednesday.

Lester Dyer, 35, Gaitre Jairaj, 24, and Isaiah Nicholas, 28, were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition after police allegedly found them with a Taurus G3C 9mm pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition.

In separate cases, 49-year-old Omarie Johnson of Liberta was charged in connection with the possession of 24.2 pounds of cannabis, as well as the cultivation and possession of cannabis plants.

Peggy Warner, 49, of Jennings New Extension was also charged with several cannabis-related offences.

Police also carried out stop-and-search exercises and vehicle checkpoints in Cashew Hill, Friars Hill Road, Bendals Road, All Saints Road, American Road, Swetes, Liberta and Buckleys.

Approximately 60 vehicles were stopped and searched during Thursday’s operation. Police said several excessive vehicle tints were removed, while two unlicensed vehicles were seized.

The operations form part of “Operation Restore Confidence,” which police say will continue across Antigua and Barbuda as authorities target illegal firearms and drugs, disrupt criminal activity and enforce the country’s laws.

The Police Administration has also appealed for continued public cooperation and encouraged anyone with information about suspicious or criminal activity to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
