UWI Five Islands Campus
Four bids have reportedly been submitted for the next phase of development at The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, with construction expected to begin before the end of 2026.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the tenders were expected to be opened within days and a contractor selected shortly afterwards.
The expansion comes as enrolment and programme offerings at the campus continue to grow, including the launch of legal education with an initial intake of approximately 65 students from more than 100 applicants.
Browne said the start of construction would further the government’s objective of transforming the Five Islands campus into a major centre for higher education in the Eastern Caribbean.
He did not identify the bidders or disclose the estimated contract value during Saturday’s programme.
I thought they had already selected a contractor and was just waiting for the project to start. I was obviously mistaken
This is good news for education in Antigua. Hopefully construction starts soon and the project stays on track. 🙌🏽
Four bids is a good sign, but now let’s get the work moving. UWI students have been waiting long enough.
Well, let’s hope they don’t take forever now. We need that expansion, especially for the students coming up. 🇦🇬
