Young Antiguan artist Kimberly Pimentel is using her creativity to place the beauty, culture and character of Antigua and Barbuda on display ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The self-taught artist has created an original CHOGM-inspired painting that offers a glimpse of what Commonwealth delegates and other visitors can expect when they arrive in the twin-island nation later this year.

Pimentel recently presented the artwork to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration and Chairman of the CHOGM 2026 National Taskforce, E.P. Chet Greene.

Impressed by both the painting and the message behind it, Greene invited the emerging artist to present the piece to Cabinet on Wednesday, August 26.

Pimentel began exploring painting approximately two years ago and launched a dedicated art page in June 2026 as she continued developing her craft and artistic voice. Her work draws inspiration from memory, culture, nature and the beauty of her homeland.

“I am a self-taught artist, and my journey has been about exploring my creativity and finding ways to express the places and experiences that are meaningful to me,” Pimentel said.

“Being able to create a piece inspired by CHOGM and Antigua and Barbuda is a special opportunity. I wanted the painting to capture elements of our country while giving viewers a sense of what they can look forward to experiencing when they visit.”

She said she was grateful for the opportunity to use her artistic talent to contribute to an important moment in the country’s history.

Greene described Pimentel’s painting as more than simply a beautiful piece of artwork, noting that it reflects Antigua and Barbuda through the eyes of one of the nation’s young creatives.

“Her work demonstrates the talent and imagination of our young people while providing a unique way to showcase our country to the Commonwealth,” Greene said.

“I was particularly impressed by the thought behind the piece and felt it was important for Kimberly to have the opportunity to present it to Cabinet.”

CHOGM 2026 Public Relations Officer and Local Media and Outreach Lead Briana Anthony said Pimentel’s initiative demonstrates the many ways in which young people can contribute to the national preparations.

“Through her artwork, she has found a unique way to tell the story of Antigua and Barbuda and give the Commonwealth a glimpse of the beauty, culture and character that visitors will experience,” Anthony said.

“CHOGM is a national moment, and we want Antiguans and Barbudans, particularly our young people, to see themselves as part of it.”

Pimentel’s Cabinet presentation will allow ministers to view the artwork and hear directly from the artist about the inspiration behind its creation.

Antigua and Barbuda will host CHOGM from November 1 to 4, 2026, welcoming leaders and representatives from across the 56-member Commonwealth.
