Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he has been invited to meet King Charles III at Buckingham Palace within the coming weeks.
Browne disclosed the invitation during Saturday’s Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM.
The anticipated meeting comes as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November.
Discussions are expected to include the country’s preparations for the major international gathering and the upcoming visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Buckingham Palace recently announced that Their Majesties will visit Antigua and Barbuda during an Autumn Tour scheduled for October 27 to November 4, 2026.
The King and Queen will undertake a Royal Visit to Antigua and Barbuda to coincide with their attendance at CHOGM 2026.
The tour will also include a Royal Visit by the King to The Bahamas and a State Visit to Guyana.
However, Browne said his upcoming meeting at Buckingham Palace will not include discussions about Antigua and Barbuda transitioning from a constitutional monarchy to a republic.
The Prime Minister has previously supported the idea of the country becoming a republic but said public consultation must take place before any move is made.
He said the Government must first determine whether “the people are ready,” adding that the administration does not want to move ahead of the population on such a significant constitutional matter.
Any transition to a republic would require constitutional changes and the support of the electorate through a referendum.

That’s a big invitation. Getting the opportunity to meet King Charles at Buckingham Palace is certainly a notable moment for Antigua and Barbuda.
