National Flag Designer Sir Reginald Samuel
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has endorsed calls for greater national recognition of Sir Reginald Samuel, the designer of Antigua and Barbuda’s national flag.
A listener proposed renaming Queen Elizabeth Highway in Samuel’s honour during a recently held radio programe.
Browne did not commit to that specific road but agreed that Samuel deserved a lasting tribute.
“He should get something. He’s an unsung hero; I agree,” the prime minister said.
Samuel designed the winning national flag in 1966. The listener’s proposal comes amid wider public discussion about recognising citizens whose work shaped Antigua and Barbuda’s identity.
