Kensington Oval witnessed history on Sunday night as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons soared to their first Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) championship, crushing the Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets in a commanding final.

The Falcons never allowed Jamaica to settle after being asked to bowl first, producing a disciplined performance with the ball before making the chase look remarkably comfortable.

Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Gaston Browne and several government ministers were among those in attendance as the Falcons produced a performance that will go down as one of the biggest moments in the franchise’s history.

Sufyan Moqim was at the centre of the Falcons’ bowling effort, ripping through the Kingsmen lineup to claim four wickets for just 14 runs. Jamaica was held to 170 for nine from its 20 overs despite a spectacular century from Maaz Sadaqat.

Sadaqat gave the Kingsmen hope with a blistering 114 from 58 deliveries, his second century of the season. But the Falcons’ response was decisive.

Antigua and Barbuda chased down the target in just 16.4 overs, reaching 173 for two with 20 balls still remaining.

Amir Jangoo led the charge with an unbeaten 57 from 34 deliveries, while Hasan Nawaz stayed at the crease on 47 not out. Their unbroken 89-run partnership ensured there would be no late drama as the Falcons powered across the finish line.

The victory marks the first CPL championship in franchise history and caps a remarkable campaign for the Falcons.

Antigua and Barbuda now has a CPL champion of its own, with the Falcons soaring to the top of Caribbean cricket and bringing home the biggest prize in the franchise’s history.
