Commonwealth Plans Trade and Investment Conference to Advance US$2 Trillion Goal
Botchwey says ministers and business leaders will meet next year to tackle barriers and support investment.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey has announced plans for a Trade and Investment Conference next year as the association works towards US$2 trillion in trade between member countries.
Addressing the CHOGM opening ceremony in Antigua and Barbuda, Botchwey said the conference would bring together ministers responsible for trade, finance and investment with chief executives.
The gathering would focus on reducing trade barriers and helping turn investment opportunities into practical projects.
She said the Commonwealth would work with trade and investment advisory groups to facilitate investments capable of making a significant impact across member countries.
The announcement formed part of her call for a new model of partnership between governments and business.
Botchwey described the Antigua and Barbuda meeting as a summit of action, arguing that the Commonwealth’s network offered both the scale to pursue global change and the relationships needed to deliver it.
