APUA Electricity Business Unit Issues Apology for Extended Outage

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Electricity Business Unit sincerely apologizes to customers served by the Five Islands #4 circuit for the extended outage experienced on Friday 28 February 2025.

Initially, maintenance work was expected to take approximately 90 minutes.

However, during the exercise, our technicians identified additional issues that could potentially cause future outages. To enhance service reliability, the team took immediate action to address these concerns.

Due to the specific location of the circuit, it could not be connected to an alternate power source, resulting in a prolonged outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The impacted areas included Union Road, Five Islands, Hatton, Grays Farm, Green Bay, Cooks Hill.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working to provide safe and reliable electricity service.

And while this is happening, they are trying stop the import of renewal energy system like Solar Panels and Backup Batteries as if the few who have them had an impact of the bottom line of APUA.
Thank goodness that citizens do have the capability to power themselves to take off some of the obvious lack of power generation from APUA.
So why trying to stop them?? You should embrace anyone wanting to become self sustainable on an island with this amount of Sun available!
After all, it does not cost anything to APUA for people to power themselves! And we surely need as much power as we can based on these ever recurring power outage!
