In a display of discontent, staff at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre gathered in the hospital’s parking lot to voice their frustrations over unpaid back pay this morning.
The protest highlights ongoing compensation issues that many employees feel have been neglected.
Medical Director Shivon Belle-Jarvis responded by venturing out to engage with the protesting employees, addressing their concerns directly.
Joan Peters, President of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA) spoke to the media outside the SLBMC.
She said the government promised that payments will be made between now and Friday.
“Whatever the government workers receive the nurses are entitled too. Government staff received their back-pay in December and we are in April and some of the nurses have not received it”, she said.
Here is what she said:
Since December most persons got theirs so wa bout the rest. Unless you don’t stand up for what is yours this government will never give it to you.. it’s about all of self and none for you
Not up to now most persons haven’t received the covid money
Aint nobody like to be owed money. I’m one of those people. So, if you owe them pay up
