Art Exhibition in Bejing
The inaugural Antigua and Barbuda-China Art Exhibition is scheduled to take place at the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre from October 3 to 5, showcasing artworks by Zheng Lai Yili and other artists.
The event is being organized through a partnership between the Confucius Institute of Antigua and Barbuda (CIAB), the Antigua and Barbuda China Friendship Association (ABCFA), and the Overseas Chinese Association of Antigua and Barbuda.
According to a press release from CIAB, the exhibition will feature a unique collection of paintings and calligraphy pieces by Mrs. ZHENG LAI Yili, who has been a resident of Antigua and Barbuda for 23 years.
Her work is deeply influenced by the remarkable landscapes and history of the Caribbean, while also reflecting her hometown of China and its traditional culture.
In light of the upcoming 41st anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Antigua and Barbuda, this joint cultural exchange aims to showcase the rich cultures and landscapes of both Antigua and China, encompassing sceneries, customs, and calligraphy.
The Art Exhibition will consist of two main events: a book launch featuring some of Zheng’s paintings included in her books “Traditional Chinese Flowers” and “Making Home in the Beautiful Islands of Antigua and Barbuda,” and a competition encouraging local children aged five to eighteen to submit artworks celebrating the beauty of both nations. Prizes will be awarded to winners from primary and secondary schools.
The competition guidelines are as follows:
- Focus on the natural beauty or historical legacy of Antigua and Barbuda and China.
- Acceptable artwork mediums include watercolor and oil painting, among others.
- Exceptional works will be displayed at the Art Exhibition, with a chance of being selected as one of the top ten finalists.
- All submissions must include the following information on the back of the artwork: name, age, grade, school name, and contact phone or WhatsApp number (preferably the latter).
- Submission Deadline: Sept. 28, 2024.
Spaces for this art competition are limited, and early registration is highly recommended. To secure your child’s spot or for more information, please contact Ms. Joanna Li via WhatsApp at 268-784-4194.
Oh wow! It’s wonderful how we are including two cultures together, we can appreciate ours and others at the same time.
