Man fined for receiving generator stolen from a police officer’s home
Twenty-one-year-old Tarique Charles has been fined for stealing a generator from a police officer.
He was charged alongside 23-year-old Rashawn Athanaze for receiving a stolen Yamaha generator valued at $1,500 owned by a cop who was also a DJ.
The incident occurred when the officer left the generator on his gallery while he left for work around 2am. Upon returning home at approximately 2pm, he discovered the generator was missing.
After realizing his generator had been stolen, the officer found it being advertised for sale on Buy and Sell Antigua.
He contacted the seller, arranged to meet, and discovered the generator in the possession of Tarique Charles.
The officer promptly had Charles arrested on suspicion of larceny. However, further investigations led to a charge of receiving stolen property.
The pair appeared in court on Monday where Athanaze pleaded not guilty and the charge against him was dropped.
Charles admitted to the crime and sentencing proceedings continued against him.
Charles was fined $1,000 which must be paid within a month or he faces four months of imprisonment.
