Jarvil Renold Dave Matthew, a medical student from Grenada who was studying in Cuba died after being ill for some time.

Grenada’s Ministry of Education made the announcement on Sunday.

According to reports, the student fell ill last month and died on December 31 after receiving medical treatment in Cuba.

He was completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Stomatology/Dentistry in Cuba in September 2019.

He had previously participated in a two-year Certified Dental Auxiliary Training Programme in Guyana.

“He always demonstrated a keen interest in learning, displayed a passion for dentistry that was rare and was a role model for his fellow classmates. The Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and staff extend their deepest condolences to Jarvil’s immediate family, relatives, friends and the community of Woodford, St John. The Ministry also expresses sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who supported Jarvil and his family during his period of illness,” a statement from the Ministry of Education in Grenada stated.
