Director of Education Clare Browne

The father who slammed the principal of the Mary E Piggott Primary School to the ground on Wednesday, causing him to suffer injuries to his shoulder will face prosecution by the Ministry of Education.

That conformation Clare Browne, the Director of Education, who announced the Observer’s Big Stories evening edition on Wednesday evening.

Classes had to be suspended at the popular primary school Monday, after the father of a student who was suspended attacked Principal Christopher Roberts who had to be taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.

Browne said the Ministry of Education will ensure that a formal report will be made to the police department “because we intend to prosecute this matter”

The director of education said he has already sought legal counsel in that regard.

“We have to ensure that this reaches to court of all. I feel very disturbed by what has happened this morning…we need to send a clear message that we will not put up with this conduct,” Browne said

He also confirmed that some students were traumatized by the incident, so much so that counselors had to intervene

“That left the whole school in disarray…I had to round up counselors and ask them to get to the school to bring them back to some sort of settlement…some students believed that their principal had died,” he said.

The Director of Education said this should never happen at any school plant.

Police Public Relations Officer Frankie Thomas said the matter is under investigation.

  3. If that is the example he is setting for his children then he must know that it is unacceptable that ignorance can be very costly and others must be mindful that this kind of dysfunctional behavior from parents will be met with the full blunt of the law and are poor examples for our young and vulnerable population who are our most cherished resources and must be able to emulate excellence and not ignorance

    • A poor example of parenting, and I would not readmit that suspended student to the school…most likely he will grow up to become a career criminal.
