Tomorrow Sarah, Anne Evangeline Joseph AKA Veda Joseph, Mama Veda, turns 104 tomorrow. She was born on 21st April 1919, the first of the five children of Amelia Beatrice Richards AKA Dada B. Mama Veda.

She grew up never knowing her father, who died when she was a baby.

Verna Frederic- Francis, who resides in England, is her only surviving sibling. She is also a centenarian; 100 years 2 months 1 week according to her family.

She was born in Green Hill, Liberta, right in the area where she now resides.

“She never attended any Secondary school; never had any training in any special skill. She grew up working in agriculture, in the fields on various estates, and with other local farmers. She also worked as a domestic worker”, a statement said.

Ma Veda, according to her family enjoys dancing, picnics, christening parties, singing meeting, and church.

She also traveled a lot to the USVI, BVI, England, USA, Curacao, St. Kitts & Nevis, Cuba, and many other places.

Ma Veda was never married. She has seven children, all still alive.

Among her many grandchildren are an airline pilot, a medical doctor, an architect, a teacher, and a contractor. Those achievements make Mama Veda very happy.

Her family said she is not fussy about food; simply cooks the usual food and she eats.

“Her sight, although not 20/20 still allows her to see and read. Her memory is still sharp and you cannot outtalk her in a conversation. She suffers mostly from aches and pains in her knees and hips.

“Otherwise, she is doing very well at 103 years; and she will tell you she did nothing special to reach that age. It’s the gift from the Creator”.
