UWI Five Islands Campus Master Plan Receives International Recognition

Published

The UWI FIC Master Plan, which was designed to establish a new campus, has been recognized for its exceptional planning by The Society of College and University Planning (SCUP) in the 2024 SCUP Excellence Awards.

The Master Plan received a Special Citation, and the jury’s comments are expected to be released in late May.

This recognition is especially significant as the UWI Campus is the first ever fully planned campus and sets a high standard for the built environment in Antigua.

The recent development has been received with great enthusiasm by the Government, as it is a testament to the Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s forward-thinking approach towards promoting the growth and expansion of the campus.

The Government has also acknowledged the crucial role played by the Saudi Fund for Development, which provided an US$80M loan to support the campus expansion.

Additionally, there has been considerable praise for the former principal, Prof. Densil Williams, for his pioneering efforts in conceptualizing and executing the plan.

His contribution has been instrumental in creating a solid foundation for the campus to flourish and achieve greater heights in the future.
