The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, is gearing up for the ICC Cricket T20 World Cup

The Ministry of Works has been actively involved in repairing and rehabilitating the stadium to ensure that it meets the necessary standards for hosting an international sporting event.

In addition to Antigua and Barbuda, five other Caribbean destinations and the US will also host the tournament.

Works Minister, Maria Vanessa Browne, reported to the parliament that three key ministries, namely sports, tourism, and works, were responsible for making sure that all preparations were in place for a successful hosting of the event.

She praised Senator Rawdon Turner and his team at National Housing for making the stadium renovations possible.

She also commended the teams from the Ministry of Works who played an instrumental role in the project.

Minister Browne outlined the renovations that have been carried out so far, which include fencing of the stadium, refurbishing of the locker rooms, upgrading of public bathrooms, and creating a new media room.

These renovations have been ongoing for some time now, and the Ministry is pleased to see them through.

The Ministry of Finance has been tasked with prioritizing financing for the ICC Cricket World Cup T20 and the 4th Conference of Small Islands Developing States (SIDS4), which will take place later this month.

The Ministry of Works is responsible for the parking lot and other civil works at the venue, which is located at the Antigua University of America (AUA) near Jabberwock Beach.

Minister Browne emphasized the importance of these events for Antigua and Barbuda, which will put the island nation on the map.

She noted that the Ministry of Works has made significant progress in preparing the two venues for the international events.

Meanwhile, the two display screens at the stadium have been replaced and are fully functional.

The credit goes to local electronic consultant Trevor ‘Guzzom’ Watkins and his team, who were responsible for installing the new monitors.

Now that the stadium has been refurbished, I hope the maintenance team at this facility keeps up the standard daily to avoid future expensive repairs. Good preventative maintenance up keep will avoid future expensive repairs.
