Government officials are working diligently to improve the country’s health infrastructure by repairing community health centers across the island, ensuring residents have adequate access and reducing the burden on the country’s lone hospital.
Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, Lionel Max Hurst, told reporters on Thursday that the Ministry of Works team is currently completing repair work at the Cobbs Cross Clinic. Work is also being conducted at the health center in Liberta, which, according to Hurst, will take a few weeks.
“There are other clinics that are in need of improvements, and those improvements will come,” Hurst said.
Plans are also in the pipeline to effect repairs at the All Saints Poly-clinic, where the roof is in dire need of repair. In the interim, residents have been diverted to other nearby areas.
“The resources that are available to Public Works are limited. So, while we are struggling to complete the clinic at Cobbs Cross, remember that we’re also fixing schools. We’re also fixing government buildings,” Hurst stated.
Among these is the national archive, which is plagued by heavy leakage due to poor roof construction. Plans are in place to rectify this underlying issue. The Clare Hall Clinic was one such facility that was recently reopened after extensive repairs.
