Roshane Adams will be sentenced next week for assaulting an 81-year-old man in an attempted robbery.

Adams, armed with a cutlass, tried to rob Steve Lovence, the elderly owner of a tailor shop on New Street. The incident occurred on September 19, 2022.

On that afternoon, Lovence was at his business when Adams and another man entered the shop, inquiring about the cost of altering a pair of pants.

When Lovence asked to see the pants first, the unknown accomplice reached into his backpack, pulled out an unidentifiable object, and shouted, “Don’t move!”

Adams then lifted his T-shirt and removed a cutlass from his waistband. He approached Lovence, shoved his hands into the elderly man’s pockets, and demanded money.

When Lovence stated he had no cash, Adams struck him in the torso with the cutlass.

After Lovence repeated that he had no money, Adams and his accomplice fled the scene. Adams was later arrested and charged. He recently pleaded guilty to the offense in the High Court.

The sentencing for Adams is scheduled for July 17, where he will face the consequences of his actions against the elderly tailor.
