Health Experts Warn of a New Covid Variant That is Deadlier than Others”
The new coronavirus variant named KP.3.1.1 has rapidly risen to dominance in the U.S., nearly doubling in prevalence in just two weeks, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Experts are warning that this new variant, accounting for more than 1 in 4 U.S. COVID-19 cases, poses a significant challenge to our immune systems compared to previous variants.
This variant, along with its predecessor KP.3, now accounts for almost half of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S.
Even if the virus has not yet been detected in Antigua and Barbuda, residents should be on high alert and practice proper hygiene, as an influx of visitors from the US are coming to our shores on a daily basis
The early analysis suggests that KP.3.1.1 is significantly more infectious and may be better at evading our immune systems and existing vaccines.
This emergence has experts concerned, with one professor describing it as “more of a challenge to our immune response” than prior variants.
