Police say a person of interest has been detained in connection with an incident in Villa on Monday, in which a policeman was robbed of his firearm. Police say the man is being questioned, and is likely to be charged.

The police constable, who was in plain clothes, was entering the Pearl River Supermarket while a gunman was carrying out a brazen robbery about 10:30 Monday morning.

The lawman was relieved of his weapon at gunpoint, while the operator was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money.

The Police Force has intensified its operations to curb a spate of armed robberies.

Law enforcers continue to urge the public to provide any information which can assist in preventing and solving crimes.
