It appears the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) will is not the only major organization in the country that is falling apart internally.

While the UPP and the resignation of its members have dominated the news, there a few cracks within the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU).

This was evident over a week ago with the launch of the People’s Credit Union- the newest trade union in the country.

The main principals behind this new organization are Ralph Potter and Andie Stephens former Industrial Relations Officers of the AT&LU.

During the launch Potter made it clear that the organization was not aligned to any political party.

Further cracks within the union were evident when on Sunday during the opening of the annual delegates conference Antigua Barbuda Labour Party Chairman EP Chet Greene intimated that General Secretary Alrick Daniel is set to depart the organization shortly.

“I was told from before I came into this room that we are likely to lose our General Secretary sometime this week, Mr. General Secretary I hope it is not so. You are part of the greatest labour organization in this country, you cannot leave the halls of labour to go anywhere else, you must stand up and defend the and promote the rights of workers in this country that is your calling,” Greene said.

He added,” We have built a rich history together, a rich history of defending and promoting the right of workers, there is no need to look left or right, just keep central. Keep center with the AT&LU and you can’t go wrong. Like we have never gone wrong”.

Wow! ANTIGUA NEWS must now be beside itself!! Resignations aplenty in the ABTLU! So the negative impact of the UPP’s resignations and dismissals has been greatly diluted! Yaay. Is Antigua a real place?
