Critical Bed Bug Issue in Antigua and Barbuda

The Central Board of Health is issuing a critical alert regarding the ongoing threat of bed bug infestations in Antigua and Barbuda.

Public Health Inspector Julienne Mannix emphasized this concern in a recent interview with ABS Radio, noting that while awareness of bed bugs exists, many individuals struggle to accurately identify them.

Mannix described the insects as small, oval-shaped, and reddish-brown, primarily feeding on blood.

While bites typically heal on their own, they can lead to allergic reactions or severe skin conditions in susceptible individuals.

To combat these pests, Mannix strongly recommends washing clothing in hot water and utilizing high heat during drying.

She also stresses the importance of closely inspecting mattresnd bses aedding for signs of infestation, including tiny bugs and black stains around seams, tags, and cracks.

Residents should consider using aerosol insecticides, but it is imperative that they follow proper application techniques to ensure effective eradication.

Immediate action is encouraged upon suspicion of an infestation, as bed bugs often conceal themselves in hard-to-reach areas, necessitating comprehensive treatment measures.

    People who are infested with bedbugs should seek professional help from pest control management services. Several affordable services are available on the island. Call around for the best pest management piece to irradiate the pest. I had the problem a couple of years ago, and today, I am free of bedbugs.
