Discussions continue into construction of new Barbuda cargo dock

Discussions are ongoing into the construction of a new cargo dock in the sister isle.

The current location of the dock has been deemed unfit for large cargo vessels and so, a new facility will be constructed.

Cabinet met with a Civil and Coastal Engineer this week who reported on the site for the new cargo dock on the south side of Barbuda.

That south side of Barbuda measures 17 miles but it is about a quarter mile away from the current dock. There is no beach there and so the experts deemed it fit for the dock to be built but of course this matter will be more examined and additional details will be shared,” Cabinet Spokesperson Lionel Hurst explained during the press briefing on Thursday morning.

Three major studies- Seabed Composition, Geotechnical Study, Maintenance plan will now have to be conducted before any other plans are put in place.

When a detailed plan is developed, a meeting with the Barbuda Council will be scheduled.

  1. Why wait until a detailed plan is developed to have meeting with the Council.? Why not have talks while developing the plan? Isn’t it how it is supposed to work?

When the time come and there is a push back, then you will hear people saying that Barbuda people don’t want development.

The people MUST be a part of the process from the start.
