After weeks of investigations, police have called in a United Progressive Party politician to answer questions about an alleged fraud involving forged cheques.
Up until last night, the UPP caretaker was subjected to extensive questioning by law enforcement
The investigation revolves around several cheques totaling nearly $40,000 linked to a local businessman.
The situation intensified with revelations that over a dozen fraudulent cheques bearing the businessman’s information were unlawfully used at a local bank.
Reports indicate that the police also questioned a female hotel employee during the investigation.
She informed authorities that the UPP official pressured her to use her bank account to cash the cheques
Her testimony suggests he received most of the money unlawfully taken from the local businessman’s bank account.
Antigua.news spoke with the attorney representing the UPP politician, who confirmed that his client was questioned, but no charges were laid.
The attorney stated that his client was being framed by the woman involved.
However, Antigua.news understands one of the cheques was written out to the politician’s brother.
