Mark Brown Renews Call for National Art Gallery to Boost Antigua and Barbuda’s Creative Sector

One of Antigua and Barbuda’s leading visual artists, Mark Brown, is renewing his call for the establishment of a National Art Gallery, emphasizing its potential to elevate the country’s growing creative sector.

“We already have the creatives. We have so much talent in Antigua and Barbuda that should be celebrated. Unfortunately, that is not the case. But we have to put one foot in front of the next to get somewhere,” Brown said.

He believes a dedicated gallery would provide a platform for proper training and development, particularly for aspiring artists looking to make their mark in the industry.

Browne also highlighted the cultural significance of such a space, stressing its role in preserving the nation’s heritage and identity.

“It is important not only for the artists but for our residents. It is crucial for us to see ourselves in places of power and in spaces that are creative, showcasing who we are, where we’ve come from, and even where we’re going,” he said.

The artist’s renewed advocacy underscores the need for institutional support to celebrate and preserve the vibrant artistry of Antigua and Barbuda.
