Atlantic Hurricane Season Comes to An End

Hurricane Helene heading for landfall in Florida and potentially life-threatening destruction (ABC News)

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season ends today on November 30.

The season produced 18 named storms, with 11 escalating to hurricane status and 5 reaching major hurricane classification. Five hurricanes made landfall in the continental United States, including two that struck as major hurricanes.

 

The Atlantic seasonal activity fell within the predicted ranges for named storms and hurricanes issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center in the 2024 August Hurricane Season Outlook.

An average season produces 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
