Derelict Vessel Cleared from Marina Bay

The Antigua Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) Coast Guard has successfully removed a derelict motor vessel from the waters of Marina Bay and is now asking its owner or owners to come forward and claim it.

In a recent media release, the Coast Guard detailed the actions taken, clarifying that this operation was conducted under their legislated authority and in cooperation with the receiver of wrecks, the Antigua Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS).

The vessel, which has been identified as a white Boston Whaler approximately 18 feet in length, was found partially submerged while moored in the Marina Bay Area.

To mitigate potential dangers, including the risk of further submersion and the emergence of the vessel as a navigational hazard, the Coast Guard acted promptly to remove and reposition it to the ABDF Coast Guard Headquarters, located at the Deep Water Harbour facility.

The Coast Guard is urging the owner or operator of the vessel to file a claim for its release at the ABDF Coast Guard Headquarters. Claims can be made from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM local time.

It is important to note that any individual coming forward to claim the vessel must provide valid documentation to substantiate their claim in order to facilitate an effective release.
For any additional inquiries or further assistance, individuals can reach out to the Operations Officer, Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Randolph Best, at 268-729-5802, or contact the Coast Guard hotline at (268) 462-3206 or call 462-2841 (2)(3).

The ABDF Coast Guard remains committed to ensuring the safety of Antigua and Barbuda’s maritime territory, which includes both navigable and unnavigable waters within the sovereign state.

This commitment is in alignment with the Force’s mission to enhance the safety and security of its citizens, continually striving to fulfill their responsibilities with diligence and care.
