Governor General Honors Six Individuals with ‘Faithful and Meritorious’ Awards

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams recognized six individuals with ‘Faithful and Meritorious’ awards at a ceremony at Government House on Tuesday.

He started these awards to honor people who have made significant contributions to the country, as the National Awards often overlook deserving candidates.

During the event, Sir Rodney mentioned that he honors remarkable individuals at three levels: The Cross, The Gold Medal, and The Silver Medal.

The recipients have excelled in various fields including veterinary medicine, cultural preservation, education, human and social transformation, community development, and the arts. Their hard work has greatly benefited our society and serves as inspiration.

On Tuesday, the Faithful and Meritorious awards were given in two categories: Cross and Gold. The recipients are as follows:

1. Dr. Radcliffe Alexander Robins OBE, OM
– Award: The Cross for Outstanding Service in Veterinary Medicine, Charitable Work in Animal Welfare, and Community Development.

2. Joseph Ignatius Martin GCH
– Award: The Cross for Outstanding Service in Cultural Preservation and Entrepreneurship.

3. Corporal Shane Williams
– Award: The Cross for Exemplary Service to the Royal Police Force and notable service to the Governor General’s Goodwill Emissary.

4. Vijay Shivkumar Tewani Esquire
– Award: The Gold Medal for Outstanding Diplomatic and Community Service to Antigua and Barbuda.

5. Loren Garfield Burford Esquire
– Award: The Gold Medal for Outstanding Service in Journalism.

6. Everton Howard Cornelius Sr. Esquire
– Award: The Gold Medal for Outstanding Performance in Sports.

In his speech, Sir Rodney highlighted Corporal Williams for his quick response and calmness during a health emergency involving Sandra Lady Williams as she traveled to China. Sir Rodney credited Corporal Williams’ actions with helping to save her life. Lady Williams, who was at the event, was visibly emotional as Sir Rodney shared her story.
