Smith says thank you to constituents

All Saints West MP Anthony Smith Jnr has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his constituents for their support following Thursday’s court victory.

Justice Jans Drysdale dismissed a challenge to Smith’s status as an independent candidate brought by fellow constituents and the United Progressive Party.

The judge ruled that the complainants did not have sufficient evidence to support the constitutional motion.

Based on those arguments the matter was struck out.

“First and foremost, I want to give thanks to God for guiding us through this process. I also want to extend my deepest appreciation to you, the wonderful people of All Saints West, for your trust and belief in my ability to represent you. I am eager to use my time in Parliament and my role in the Cabinet to advocate for the needs and aspirations of our constituency and our great nation,” Smith Jnr said.

He also expressed disappointment in the leadership and legal advisors of the United Progressive Party.

“ It is disheartening that my constituents were misled regarding the implications of my position. I hope that those truly responsible will not only reflect on their actions and the ill-advised counsel they provided but also bear the burden of paying the judgment of the full $1,500.”

The All Saints West MP said that in light of the judgment and compensation awarded, all of the funds will be contributed back to the constituency’s development.

He said the failed leadership of the United Progressive Party should be held accountable for their imprudence.

“Thank you once again for your support, I want to reiterate my love and respect for everyone, including those in the UPP. My dedication is to all constituents of All Saints West, and I look forward to serving you with integrity, enthusiasm, and commitment. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous All Saints West,” he said.
